Antique 20th century fine quality mirror-back sideboard in walnut, an absolutely stunning and highly impressive piece of furniture. Very well made and of fine quality, it features a shelf to the upper section with a beautifully bevelled mirror, creating a striking and elegant focal point.
Below, the sideboard offers excellent storage with two blind door cupboards positioned one on either side and three central drawers, all retaining their original brass handles and fittings. A further shelf runs along the base, and the piece is stood on turned legs, adding to its refined proportions. The sideboard is breathtakingly carved throughout, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The walnut displays gorgeous grain and rich colour, enhancing the overall presence of the piece.
In good condition and a very desirable, rare find, the sideboard comes apart into two sections for ease of transport.
Adding to its appeal is a wonderful and well-documented history. The piece has remained in the same family since the time of the London Blitz. It was originally purchased for £8 by the lady’s grandfather, who acquired it while working for a man who sadly lost his life during one of the bombing raids. It was later passed down to her grandmother and then to her, along with a postcard detailing its story. Sadly, due to a house move and lack of space, the family has had to part with it, allowing us the opportunity to offer this remarkable piece.
A truly beautiful and characterful sideboard, rich in both craftsmanship and history. The more you look at it, the more captivating it becomes. A perfect addition to any home and a piece that really has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
