Antique 20th century side cabinet in oak, a charming and well-made piece of good quality, showcasing fine hand-carved decoration in the Jacobean revival manner.
The cabinet has a cupboard to the top enclosed by a single panelled door with a brass knob and lock, opening to reveal a useful storage space. The inside of the door is fitted with two small carved holders. Below are two open shelves, ideal for books, magazines or display.
The piece is decorated on both the front and the back with carved panels of scrolling strapwork and flower-head rosettes, flanked by leaf-carved uprights. The top is set with a further carved panel, and both shelves are carved with scrolling designs between carved end rails. It stands on square legs.
The oak displays an attractive figured grain with a warm, rich colour and a lovely aged patina.
Presented in good condition. A very desirable and versatile cabinet that looks good from every side, perfect beside a bed or chair, in a hallway or as a lamp table in a living room.
