Antique 19th century Victorian sideboard in rosewood, a handsome and elegant piece of very good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and beautiful marquetry decoration.
Of inverted breakfront form, it offers three panelled cupboard doors. The central door has a brass drop handle and lock, and opens to a single shelf; the left-hand cupboard also has a single shelf, while the right-hand cupboard is fitted with two sliding trays. The interior is neatly finished, with the doors lined in a warm mahogany.
Each door panel is richly inlaid in satinwood and boxwood marquetry with classical urns, ribbon-tied swags and flowing scrolling foliage, flanked by pilasters inlaid with trailing husks. The moulded top has a raised upstand to the back, and the whole piece sits on a stepped plinth base.
The rosewood displays a striking, dramatic grain and a warm, rich colour, beautifully contrasted by the pale inlays, which are particularly well shown on the sides and top.
Presented in good condition, with a compact size that suits smaller dining rooms and hallways.
A very desirable Victorian piece, perfect for a dining room, sitting room or hallway.
