Vintage 20th century Chippendale style writing desk in mahogany, an elegant and well-proportioned writing table of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship in the 18th century manner.
The desk is fitted with two frieze drawers, each finished with brass swan-neck bail handles on round backplates and brass keyholes. The drawers are solidly made with a pale timber lining.
The top has a neat moulded edge above a moulded frieze, and the legs are of square section with a moulded outer edge. Each corner is set with a pierced fretwork bracket in the Chinese Chippendale taste. The back is finished in mahogany, so it can stand away from the wall.
The mahogany displays an attractive figured grain to the top with a warm, rich colour and a pleasing patina.
Presented in good condition, a very desirable writing desk of neat proportions, perfect for a study or home office, and equally suited for use as a side or console table.
