Antique early 20th century bureau bookcase in oak, a charming and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship in the Jacobean revival style.
The upper bookcase is enclosed by a pair of astragal glazed doors with shaped glazing bars, opening to two shelves. Below, the fall front opens to a fitted interior of pigeonholes and a small central drawer, with the writing surface supported on brass stays. Beneath are two long drawers fitted with brass pear drop handles.
The fall front is framed with a bobbin moulding, matched by bobbin mouldings to the front edges of the carcass, and the base is finished with a shaped apron raised on barley twist legs joined by stretchers.
The oak displays a lovely figured grain, particularly to the fall front, with a warm, rich colour and an attractive aged patina.
The bookcase top lifts off the bureau base, making it easier to move. Presented in good condition, with some marks to the writing surface consistent with age and use. A very desirable bureau bookcase, perfect for a study, hallway or living room.
