Vintage 1930s Art Deco side by side bureau bookcase in oak, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and bearing its original maker's label to the back.
The central bureau has a lockable fall front which opens onto a writing surface supported by metal stays, with a fitted interior of pigeonholes above a small drawer. Below is a long drawer over a pair of cupboard doors enclosing a shelf. The bureau is flanked on each side by a glazed bookcase cupboard, each with a single glass door opening to adjustable shelves, perfect for books and display.
The front is decorated with fielded geometric panels and applied block mouldings typical of the Art Deco period, which also serve as handles, and the whole stands on a stepped plinth base.
The oak displays a stunning quarter-sawn figured grain with lovely medullary ray flashes and a warm, rich golden colour.
Presented in good condition, a very desirable and practical piece combining a desk and bookcase in one, perfect addition to any study, home office or living room.
